PERSONALITY Rei has always had an intense personality, and he has been a perfectionist from a young age. Whenever he sets his mind to something, he becomes stubborn and steadfast in its pursuit. Because of this, he initially appears to be someone who is very composed, when in actuality, he's a complete dork. He approaches everything he does in life mathematically and logically, and this especially applies to his athletic pursuits. When he was on the track team, as a pole vaulter, he would calculate all of the factors that would influence his jump in order to achieve the results he desired. He approaches swimming the same way, though it doesn't really work out for him at first; he is unable to learn any of the strokes except for the butterfly for the first few months he spent swimming. As Rei spends more time with his teammates, his friends, he opens up more and proves himself to be an absolutely ridiculous person. His attempts at being cool and collected often backfire, and his paranoia about appearing "beautiful" often mean that he looks the exact opposite. Rei is prone to embarrassment because he is concerned with how he is perceived, but he is always about to bounce back from an incident. In time, he even embraces a more "free" attitude around his friends, consciously or not. He is able to perform Gou's rather mortifying skit to recruit people for the swim team, and even openly weeps in front of his friends before their last race together.

ABOUT Rei is a 16 year old Japanese high school junior. His birthday is December 14th. He is a member of the Iwatobi swim club, and the butterfly leg of their medley relay. He is also an incredible academic mind, one of the top students in his class who is brilliant at math and physics. He is not very well versed in social situations, and finds the need to research pretty much everything that he is going to go up against. He used to be a member of the track team, where he was a pole vaulter like his older brother. APPEARANCE Rei is 177 cm (5'10"), with short, neat blue hair and purple eyes. He is near-sighted, wearing red glasses out of the pool and prescription goggles while swimming. He is muscular from his sports activities, and has an especially strong upper body that is useful in swimming the butterfly stroke. His swimsuit is a pair of black legskins with a blue stripe down either leg. ABILITIES Rei has no supernatural abilities, but he is more athletic than the average high school student. He seems to have a lot of stamina, because he often goes running as part of a his daily routine, and has strong arm muscles, specifically his deltoids and biceps. He is now capable of swimming all four strokes (free, breast, back, and butterfly), with butterfly being his strongest. He is also capable of making calculations very quickly in his head.
